Way too many have this magical thinking that protests will just change everything if you get enough people to it.
Protests that don't shut down the city that lawmakers are in are nothing more than angry parties. You can protest with as many people as you want, if it's not right before an election or in DC then it's not going to do anything.
The difference between us in America and say China is we can say anything we want because we have no power to change things. Freedom of speech means little when the people have no real power. Freedom to protest in a way that doesn't block anything and doesn't inconvenience anyone has no actual power to do anything. At most it can tell a politician that a lot of people are upset, something polls already do a better job at.
