I feel like I’m living in a gaslit world where lies are normalized, and that terrifies me. When I see Trump’s speeches, I feel numb and anxious because I’m watching someone deny objective reality—over and over—and watching millions of people cheer for it. He says immigrants are violent when the data says they’re less likely to commit crimes than U.S.-born citizens. He says he built the greatest economy ever, even though the numbers show he just inherited a trend. He says the 2020 election was stolen, even though over 60 courts, including Trump-appointed judges, rejected those claims.

What breaks me isn’t just the lies—it’s how easily they stick. How people I know—smart, kind people—start to believe that facts don’t matter, that truth is whatever their leader says it is. That makes me feel like I’m losing my grip on reality, or worse, like reality doesn’t matter anymore. I’m scared of what it means when so many people don’t care whether something is true, only whether it feels good to believe. And I’m angry that fear and hate are being used so casually, so constantly, as tools to divide us.
