I've never had a close relationship with my mom. Growing up, it felt like we were just roommates. I've tried to brush it off, but it hurts seeing everyone else with their amazing mom relationships.
I feel guilty for not feeling closer to her, but gratitude doesn't change the fact that we just don't click. Mother's Day is the worst – all the sappy tributes make me feel like I don't belong.
Can't we just acknowledge that not everyone has a perfect mom relationship? It's okay if we don't all have the same experience.
